Rockstar Kyle Kinane

If you have ever seen Kyle Kinane’s comedy then it is not a far leap to a punk rocker. He has always had a rockstar vibe that is finally being tested by his new venture into music. Hearing his voice over Comedy Central for years, it can be hard to believe that he has a great singing voice. But his raspy voice translates perfectly with this genre of music. A music video was released last month of the single of their debut album. Take a look at “Disappear” by Off With There Heads below. You can pre-order the whole album now for an August 16th release date. There is nothing that this man can’t do!

Whitney, Can I Touch it?

She is back with a brand new special. Whitney Cummings has been working and touring this hour for years but the wait is over. If you have seen here on Twitter or Instagram you will know that between writing on TV shows and taking care of animals, she has also been slaying on stages around the country. It was great when she was here back in September and not just because she surprised a bachelorette party in their limo. Whitney is an incredible comic and incredible person. Support this funny lady by watching her new Netflix special, Can I Touch it?, on July 30th!

Jo Koy & son

Have you ever wondered how the kids feel about their parents doing comedy? Can you imagine if you were one of the main focuses in their act, to be the butt of the joke? Now think if you dad was one of the biggest comics in the world and told jokes about you taking long showers. Well you no longer have to imagine it because last month Netflix had Jo Koy and his son sit down to discuss Jo’s most recent hour released on Netflix, called Comin’ In Hot. Little Jo reacts and has a great sense of humor about the whole thing which is a testament to how Jo Koy raised him. Watch the the video below to see what we are talking about!

Sword of Trust

IFC Films has a new movie coming out on July 12th called Sword of Trust starring Marc Maron, Jillian Bell (22 Jump Street), Michaela Watkins (Casual), and Jon Bass (Baywatch). The movie is a drama but with this hilarious cast there are bound to be some laughs along with an incredible story.

“Mel (Marc Maron) is a cantankerous pawnshop owner in Alabama who spends most of his time swindling customers while trying and failing to get his man-child employee Nathaniel (Jon Bass) to do any work. When Cynthia (Jillian Bell) and her wife Mary (Michaela Watkins) try to hawk a Civil War-era sword inherited from Cynthia’s recently deceased grandfather, he tries to get the better of them. The sword, however, comes with a convoluted report from Cynthia’s grandfather claiming the relic to be proof the South actually won the war. It isn’t long before the coveted “prover item” draws the attention of overzealous conspiracy theorists and the two duos have to join forces in order to sell the sword to the highest bidder. The journey that ensues takes the ragtag bunch on a tour through the deep South and the minds of the local fanatics who inhabit it. Created from the raw talent of its cast and infused with a lot of heart and laughs, Sword of Trust takes a stab at uncovering emotional truths through moments of hilarity and hits right on the mark.” – IFC Films

Bring The Funny

Bring the Funny is nothing like we have seen on TV before. Though NBC helped comedians make the limelight on Last Comic Standing, this show will give more than just stand up comedians a chance. Not only will it feature stand up but also variety and sketch comedy for a chance to win $250,000 and perform at the prestigious Just for Laughs Festival in 2020. The host is Amanda Seales and judges are Jeff Foxworthy, Kenan Thompson, and Chrissy Teigen. Some performers will definitely look familiar like Pat Regan and Jeremiah Watkins, Jesus Trejo, Ali Siddiq, and Rocky Dale Davis. Excited to see how everyone does on this show. Premiering July 9th on NBC after America’s Got Talent.

Orny Adam Fun Facts

We have seen him on Jerry Seinfeld’s The Comedian but he is more than meets the eye. Don’t believe us well here is the proof…

  • Orny wanted to play basketball in high school but did not make the team. He did make the debate team and traveled to different states “debating a bunch of geeks.” In college he was the pitcher for his fraternity softball team. They won the championship the two years he pitched.
  • Orny has never had a 9 to 5 job, something he cherishes like a medal of honor.
  • In the 1996, or thereabouts, casting agents from Disney came to Boston to scout new comedians. Orny was chosen and flown to Los Angeles to be considered for a deal to star in his own sitcom. The deal did not go through and the flight home was one of the loneliest.
  • When producers of the film “Comedian” approached Orny about being in the film, he assumed it would be for a scene, maybe two.
  • Orny and Jerry Seinfeld have remained friends and mutually respectful of each other’s work. Jerry is one of Orny’s biggest champions. Despite rumors, Orny is not related to Jerry. And Jerry is not related to Orny. But they do both have relatives.
  • Orny likes to eat alone and if he could have dinner with anybody throughout history it would therefore be himself.
  • Orny will often pull out a pen and paper from his back right pocket and write down some note. He will do this in the middle of conversations, middle of streets, even the middle of his act.
  • Orny’s act is 99% accurate and fact checked.

How could you not want to see him after reading all this?! Come to Comedy Works Downtown July 11th-13th!

Over & Over, a Comedy Special Documentary

Iliza has 4 Netflix specials so it makes her the perfect person to make a documentary about everything that goes into recording these specials. She teamed up with Comedy Dynamic to bring us Over & Over, showing how she prepared for the recording of her most recent special, Elder Millennial. If you watch closely you get a glimpse of Iliza on our Comedy Works South stage. Available July 2nd on iTunes, Amazon Prime, Google Play, and more.

Iliza thanks her fans by saying “We created something special for the fans, new and old, as a way to say thank you for always being there and supporting me. Words cannot express my gratitude to them for always showing up. Over and Over is as much about them as it is about me.”

Steve Simeone’s Jabba

Steve Simeone started coming to Comedy Works with Ari Shaffir so it is so cool to hear this discussion between these 2 favorites of the club. It is even more exciting to hear how much they love us. The club that comes to mind first is Comedy Works Downtown. Maybe next time they decide to record they will grace us with honor. If you have haven’t heard this album, you need to. No one has praising the dad material like Steve Simeone. Two one of a kind comics talk comedy and recording an album, is there anything better?!

Anthony Jeselnik on Kimmel

Anthony Jeselnik is known for his perfectly crafted dark jokes. Being recorded right after Father’s day, Anthony talks about how he got the Pittsburgh Pirates to let his dad throw out the first pitch on his 70th birthday. Such an awesome gift from an awesome son. Of course this quickly turns into a conversation about his dark sense of humor and how it plays with crowds. Sure at this point many comedians have done stand up comedy in prisons, but Jeselnik’s humor was not welcome at San Quentin Penitentiary when he “opened” for Queens of the Stone Age. Watch the clip for the full story.

Lights Out with David Spade

David Spade’s new late show is premiering July 29th. Lights Out with David Spade will take the prime show spot after The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. You can’t tell much from the promo video that Comedy Central put up but we anticipate a light hearted, silly take on pop culture with appearances from Spade’s funny comedian and celebrity friends. Leaving the political humor to The Daily Show, Lights Out could be a nice change of pace for the audience. Make sure you tune in or set it up to record. You will not want to miss it!
