On Saturday, June 14, Denver native Phil Palisoul won first place at the 2013 Great American Comedy Festival. He beat out eight other professional comedians in the finals to take home the first place trophy.
The Great American Comedy Festival is a 4-day festival of stand-up comedy honoring one of the greatest comedians and Norfolk native, Johnny Carson. The event showcases some of the best amateur and professional comedians from across the nation.
Phil took home the $1,000 first place prize and trophy while Dennis Regan of Miami was awarded second place and Joe Machi of State College, Pa., won third place in the comedy festival’s professional comedian competition. The winners were picked by a panel of comedy club managers who judged the comedians on their material, audience reaction, poise and other categories.
